The girl has been obsessed with watching cooking shows lately! She has also been asking non-stop to make "a rainbow egg recipe"! What on Earth are rainbow eggs? Well after much questioning, I have concluded they are not dyed Easter eggs. I still have no idea what she's talking about, but decided to indulge her anyways. We took my tried and true Chinese egg tart recipe and turned it rainbow! This recipe is so super easy and always a crowd pleaser!
Mix 1 egg, 1/4 sugar and 3/4 cream or milk. Pour into frozen dessert tarts. Bake for 35mins at 325C.
See!! So super simple!! This recipe will make 10 tarts! I usually add a couple drops of yellow food coloring to give it some color! So this time we added various colors and made it rainbow!! Hopefully the girl is satisfied with this "rainbow egg recipe"!!

Happy Papa's Day!!
Kalbs and Yules hope all the Papas had a wonderful day filled with lots of love and laughter!!!
Yulli made this lovely portrait for her dad! It took us a little while but I think it looks great! We spent lots of time talking about the different colours and shapes in his face. I helped her draw the shapes and she cut and glued them.
We also did our annual questionnaire!
Here is last year's questionnaire for comparison!

He still likes watching hockey and still looks like a bear... but he's aged 15 years!! Hahaha

Happy Sunday!
Here's 6 random things that are making my heart happy this Sunday:
1. Books neatly organized and colour-coordinated!
2. This ice-cream!! OMG it's so yummmm and I don't even like coconut (except in Malibu of course). Super creamy and delish!
3. Peonies!! Oh man these flowers are so lovely... minus the tiny ants that apparently love them too!

I is for Igloo
***So I was hesitant to post this because I sound so angry, but then again when am I not angry? Haha! But I do think posts like this are important because it is a good reminder to be more cognisant when we are interacting with our kids! Ask yourself what is the goal of the activity? Do you want to teach your kid something specific like Igloos are made out of snow? Or do you want them to practice cutting on the line? Or do you want them to simple just have fun? Having fun can totally be the goal! Either way, thinking about it leads to more meaningful and purposeful experiences for your little monsters!***
Okay so here it is: The very reason for my rant! This lovely craft that Yulli made at school!
I could hear the other parents ooing and ahhing about how cute it was! I did not ooo or ahh. I did not think it was cute or lovely. I was actually borderline super annoyed with it actually! Surprisingly, I am not a big fan when it comes to crafts for kids. But I don't mind when Yulli comes home from school or classes with crafts. I figure we rarely do any at home, so exposure is good and if she's having fun, then no biggie. I'm not sure why I cared so much or why it bothered me... but it did! Big time! Haha!
Number 1. Why on earth does it have "Marshmallow Igloo" written on it? Does the teacher think I'm an idiot that wouldn't be able to figure out what the heck it was? Or does she think Yulli will forget what she made? Either way... grrr! At the very least, the kids could have attempted to write "igloo" by themselves.
Number 2. I asked the monster about it. She said that igloos were made out of marshmallows and that penguins lived in them. Grrrr... and why doesn't blogger have emoticons? Or does it and I'm just not smart. Anyways... igloos are not made out of marshmallows and no, they are not a home for penguins!
Number 3. Yulli did not obviously write the words. She also did not cut out the igloo and glue it on. So what the heck did she do? She just glued the marshmallows on! I'm going to go out on a limb and say that there was probably no fine motor focus like using a pincher grasp to put the marshmallows on or placing one marshmallow on each block.
Number 4. Was it at least fun? Did you enjoy this craft Yulli? "No, we didn't even get to eat any marshmallows!" Haha oh the injustice of giving kids marshmallows but not even letting them eat any! I feel her pain!
So there you have it! This cute little craft (that I obviously don't even think is really cute) served zero purpose what so ever. At least it is a step up from an igloo coloring sheet! (You don't even want to get me started about coloring sheets ahaha! I'll save that for a rainy day.) If Yulli brought this craft home with her own attempt at writing igloo at the top, I would not have been annoyed. If she cut out the igloo and glued it on herself, I would not have been annoyed. If she learned that igloos are made out of snow and are human homes, I would not have been annoyed. If she thought it was fun, I totally wouldn't have been annoyed! Grrrrr...
I may be a little anti-craft to start off with, but I do think there is a time and place for them. I'd much rather Yulli bring home something super hideous that she created all by herself. Teachers and parents really need to step away from wasting so much precious time prepping crafts. I already know you can cut and write and color! I want my kid to practice all those things! Those efforts are definitely not appreciated (by me at least) and aren't doing the kids any favours.
Ok END RANT!!

Wine and Crafts
Wine and crafts night! Sounds like a jolly ol' time or some serious Pinterest fails in the making! Haha!
I had a couple gals over for an evening of wine and crafts. Most of which were more interested in wine than crafts, so I picked a pretty simple craft. So simple in fact that the next day the little monster made some as well... resulting in the same caliber end product. Which means this craft is pretty much suitable for anyone and any skill level!
We made some lovely snowflake ornaments out of wooden clothespins. Simple twist to take apart and glue them back together to form a snowflake and paint. We tied on some twine to hang as ornaments or they could be cute gift tags or even cute coasters.
And what's wine and crafts without munchies...

Hello! It's me...
So it's obvious that I have given up on this blog! Boo! Insert sad emo face!
I was flipping through my abandoned blog and got a little Emo... okay a lot emo. There were so many moments and memories and projects that I had forgotten all about. I'm no spring chicken anymore and my memory is not what it used to be at all! I was reminded of how awesome it was to have this blog to document our crazy life and be able to look back and actually... remember!!!! Haha
So anyways, what I'm trying to say is that I'm going to try super hard to keep this blog going again. If not for the handful of you that have been borderline harassing me, then for myself!! Insert happy smiley face!!
So our gift to you this Holiday season is More us!

DIY Body Butter
Yules and I attempted to make some body butter today! Not too shabby for our first try. You can pretty much add whatever you want and all you have to do is melt, chill and whip! We used coconut oil, cacao butter, shea butter and argan oil! If we can do it, anyone can! Easy peasy lemon squeezie! Yules said that she smelled like chocolate muffins when I slathered it on her... and she was right! So yummy!

Scary Short story!
My little Yulli is clever and charming, sweet and endearing... but super shy and of very few words. We've been working very hard together on encouraging her speech and language. She's come so far in the past few months that I'm speechless (pun intended).
She has a beautiful and vivid imagination and I especially love watching her dramatic play. It's crazy the little things that she comes up with on her own and the connections that she has made without me even realizing it. But what has amazed me lately is how she is now able to use language and words to express herself. Her new favourite thing is telling me stories.
Tonight, with some guiding and clarifying she told me her first, full, complete and semi-logical fictional, short story! And of course I just have to share it with all of you guys!
Boo-Boo Monster by Yulli-Boo
Monster!
Nice monster!
Scary! (scared)
Spider on his chest.
Ahhhhhhh! (high pitched school girl scream)
Rabbit on his knees.
Ahhhhhhh!
Monkey on his head.
Ahhhhhhh!
Monster scary! (scared)
Owl on his feet.
Ahhhhhhh!
Tiger on his belly.
Roarrrrrrr!
Ahhhhhhh!
Scary!
Hippo on his teeth!
Ahhhhhhh!
Snake on his eye!
Sssssssssss!
Ahhhhhhh!
Run away!
Boo Boo on his head!
Band-aid!
Santa (gave him a) Band-Aid!
Dream! (all just a bad dream)
The end!
Ohmygawsh! I love it soooooo much!
Edit: Husband read this and was not as enamoured as I was. So let me please point out that it is actually quite extraordinary for a 2-3 year old to tell a story with a beginning, middle and end. This story although simple has adjectives (frickin adjectives), sound effects, repetition, protagonist, antagonists, plot, problem, resolution and even a twist ending! Just missing a setting! Sheesh what more does the man want? Okay end rant!

Like father like daughter
Who needs a paternity test? Not I! Yules is totally related to her Papa! She not only looks exactly like the girl version of him, she is starting to act like him too... especially his OCDness!
Yules had some friends coming over for lunch, so I asked her to set the table. I needed to occupy her with something so I could actually make the lunch. I grabbed all the stuff and showed her what to do. I instructed her to give each person one of each and did a quick example. This is my example:
I went to check on her a few minutes later and she obviously thought my setting sucked and did it her own way! This is what her place setting looked like:
Oh my goodness...I'm not even making this up! I actually still can't believe it! My kid is so OCD and she didn't get it from me that's foe shizzle!

Happy (3 days after) Valentine's Day!
As you can clearly see, I am obviously super on top of things!
Happy Valentine's Day everyone!
These were the Valentine's that Yules gave out this year to her friends! The heart measuring cups are super adorbs and yes I'm that lady that clears shelves. The super cute label I made myself... Haha NOT, I got it from here!
We picked up these cute fans during a Walmart trip for fun. Well my intent was to train her to fan me while I laid in bed eating bon bons and watched soaps... That didn't happen, so I guess they were just for fun! LOL They came in a 6pack so I made a few into Valentines as well.
We were pretty low key this year and didn't do too much! We took Yules out to her favourite restaurant for dinner (friggin kid has a favourite restaurant... what on earth?)! She must have been pretty pleased because she surprised Husband and I with the best Valentine's present ever afterwards. She said for the very first time in real English "Love you Mama"! Oh my goodness, even my icy cold heart melted a bit! And then she said it to her Papa! He instantly melted into a giant puddle and told her she could have anything she wanted! I told her to say "LV"... she said "L zwe"... hmmm I have a feeling that is not quite the same! Ahahaha

Roses are red, violets are blue...
Yules had a playdate the other day with the sweetest little boy! He rings the doorbell and when I answer, I look down to see this sweet boy holding flowers for my Yulli! Oh my gawwdddddd! Just about the cutest thing I ever did see! He proudly presents the flowers to her and the little monster runs off! Ummmm probably not the reaction he was expecting!! Haha! But she actually ran off to get a card that she made him and was just as eager to give it to him! Eeekk this is just too stinking cute and I'm kicking myself for not running to get my phone to capture this moment! His mom said it was his idea to get the flowers... how on earth does a 2 year old come up with the idea to buy flowers? His dad must be a total romantic!
Husband cannot believe there are boys knocking on the door trying to woo his little girl already! Hahaha!

Do you wanna build a snowman?
I saw something similar to this on Pinterest the other day and it looked simple (which I like) and I already had everything laying around at home (which I really like)!
Here's my invitation to play: (those round white things are cotton pads in case you can't tell from the pic)
And here is what the monster created:
And here's an extra little something for you to chuckle at...
This is the pic I send out of the awesome Snowman "Yulli" made:
And this is the "Actual" snowman she made:
Meh Close enough! Hahahaha...

Boo on Me!
YES!!! The answer is totally and completely YES! Yes, I have totally and completely abandoned this blog! Boo on me is right! The truth is I feel like I have nothing interesting to write about and zero time to write about nothing! The freaking monster keeps me sooooo busy that I barely have time to play CandyCrush! Lol! But many of you have been bugging and borderline harassing me to continue blogging... and I do love me some peer pressure.... so here you go! I will attempt to blog here and there about our regular antics and shenanigans for your entertainment pleasure!
These 2 monsters do miss the attention and spotlight!!

Happy Father's Day!
YAY for Papas!! Happy Father's day to all the Papas out there!
In keeping with tradition... Husband gets to have uninterrupted, quality, bonding-time with the children ALL day long for Father's Day!! What more can a Dad ask for? Haha I wish! I also tried to take pics of Kalbs and Yules for their Papa. Kalbs sat nice and obediently (after making me chase him all over the house of course) and he got a treat and I got a nice pic!
The other monster however kept making faces and smudging the chalkboard! It took many many attempts to get a decent pic of her! AIYAH human children can be so difficult!! Haha
